Seeing Red With Lexus
Oh my god – I just fell in love! There was not build up, no getting to know each other, no dancing around with occasional flirtations. Just in your face, mind blowing, gob smacking, to die for love at first sight – and all this with the new Lexus IS 250 Convertible!
The latest offering from Lexus has just made its debut at the Paris Motor Show and was greeted with awe by dribbling enthusiasts who cannot wait to get their hands on one of these babies when they are released across Europe next summer. (Going to get me one in red!)
The IS 250 Convertible is the third addition to the IS range and shares its design of bonnet, headlamps, mirrors and door handles. The rest of the panels are truly unique to the 250 having been re-designed to fit with the folding roof. It sports a new design of fog lamp which sits neatly in the deep front air dam and a side view shows you the convertibles strong, dominant bodywork.
This Lexus uses the aerodynamic function to simply make it look more beautiful and more streamlined with a windscreen and roof line that seem to flow uninhibited. New lamp clusters are at the rear with LED illumination and high mounted stop light in the rear spoiler.
But this is the bit that gets me. With the roof down, the Lexus profile is completely smooth with no mechanism in sight offering a very sleek appearance. There are no jerky movements with the opening and closing of the roof either due to their innovative, smooth closing action. It just looks the bees knees and I defy anyone not to fall in love with it purely on looks.
Ok, enough from my branch of the Lexus fan club – now for a few facts.
The Lexus IS 250 Convertible holds within that gorgeous body a 2.5 litre petrol V6 engine offering 2.5 bhp with a six speed automatic transmission. Safety, of course, can be an issue with convertible vehicles but not so, the Lexus 250. The design has incorporated elements that bring it in line with a five star frontal impact rating in Euro NCAP crash testing. Enhanced collision strength, roll over protection and optimised chassis control as well as new design side airbags for head protection and extra energy absorbing side impact pads all add to the safety aspects of this car.
