On my daily trawl through Google and Twitter, today I discovered that Chinese artist Dai Geng has created a replica BMW Z4 entirely out of bricks. As awesome and innovative as that is, I really can’t see it turning up at any used BMW dealerships in the near future.

Weighing in at 6.5 tonnes of manipulated masonry, everything apart from the glass windows is made of brick – even the hinges that allow the door to open, the tyres and the hubcaps. As great as this piece is, and as impressive as it would be for a dealer to own, don’t expect to see it outside your local used BMW dealer unless they have a spare £80,000. I’m sure someone will buy it and cherish it, but as with most things that come out of the art world, I have to ask myself who and why.

What do you think? Is this a sound investment or is it a needless extravagance? Leave us a comment and let us know.

In the world of company cars, it’s all about fuel economy and company’s go to great lengths to ensure that money is not wasted on use of their vehicles. For a shortcut just use BMW!

A survey which has been carried out by Fleet News magazine has found that the BMW 3 Series is the most reliable company car. Fifty of the largest contract hire companies managing a total of 1.5 million vehicles were polled and voted th BMW the best. This is no prettied up survey done for a nice looking car by biased people – this is based on hard, cold facts. No business can afford to choose their fleet cars on sentiment, only on cost – cost to run and maintain.

The BMW 3 series has evolved since it’s inception to become lighter, roomier, more economical whilst still delivering top performance all encased in a sleek, sexy body.

Promising to reach us by 2012, the new hybrid from Honda – the Fit EV has been showcased at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show.

With a top speed of 90mph and a range of 70 miles, this all electric version has a lithium-ion battery for storage and an electric motor adapted from the FCX Clarity hydrogen fuel-cell car. Under test conditions, The Fit EV proved itself capable of a 100 mile range but this figure was reduced to allow for urban driving styles. The driving range can be extended by opting for a different driving mode: econ, normal and sport with a 17% difference between each. In sport mode, the Fit EV has an acceleration performance similar to that of a small car with a 2 litre engine – not bad when you consider the pollution your saving!

Recharging takes 12 hours on a 120v outlet and a mere 6 hours with a 240v supply.

With 5 seats and five spoke aluminium wheels as well as a few tweaks to the exterior to bring it bang up to date this is a very stylish looking car! Even the key fob itself is an all singing all dancing affair – you can check the status of the battery, initiate charging and activate the climate control all from your little hand held fob!

Although this is the very best in the Honda electric cars to date, they do not intend to rest on their laurels and are continuing to work on making ever greater improvements in performance – currently working on a hybrid that re-charges in as little a 1 hour. Keep a look out for this one!

Starting in the Middle East (where else), Lexus have launched their 2011 offering – an updated version of its flagship sedan – the LS 460.

Power output is improved with its 4.6lt engine, taking it from 342bhp to 375bhp.

So you can go faster. What else?

Well, the Lexus is already a top of the range luxury car so how do you improve on perfection. You tweak it to suit your buyers and you give them options! All luxury car buyers love options – it adds a feeling of uniqueness that simply can’t be bought off the peg so to speak.

Choose from four leather and wood trim combination to make it your own and sit back in comfort and enjoy the multi-way adjustable fromt seats, multi-zone climate control and the power tilt moon roof. If you opt for the long wheelbase version you can also choose an Ottoman rear seat complete with massage facility – perfect for those long journeys. There are two long wheelbase options with four or five seats as well as the standard wheelbase model.

Just to make you feel that little more pampered, you get iPod connectivity and bluetooth audio streaming as standard as well as sport tuned air suspension, Brmebo brakes, 19 inch wheels with sports package option and the brake override system all as standard.

Lexus have many watchwords in their vocabulary – all as equally important as each other. Performance, styling and safety. Performance and styling are there by the bucket load as are the safety features but this is a little bit special. Active front headrests have been designed and installed to help reduce the severity of whiplash injuries in the event of an accident.

So you see, it may seem impossible to improve on what already is an amazing luxury car but they manage it all the time!

There is always something of a gap in the market when it comes to luxury convertibles; there are surprisingly few four-seat models with metal roofs available and it’s this particular gap that Lexus are looking to fill with the new IS 250C SE-L range – a range which weighs in from around £36,000 to £44,500.

Attention to detail has always been a key to Lexus vehicles and this particular model is no exception, where the diligence of the team has created an eye-catching executive convertible, although it’s not more of a grand tourer than a sporting machine and it’s likely to be more at home on the city streets than speeding through the open roads of the alps, but it’s still an eminently pleasurable drive. This is largely down to the silky smooth delivery of the vehicle’s power and slick shifting through the gears combined with the excellent suspension, making even the bumpiest of roads a comfortable ride.

It’s not just the power that’s feels effortless either; the steering of the IS 250C SE-L is as precise and clear as drivers will have come to expect from the Lexus brand and the breaks are surprisingly powerful. Of course, a luxury brand of vehicle like this lives and dies on, well, it’s luxuriousness, and the IS 250C SE-L is a Lexus through and through.

There’s plenty of interior space on offer and it seems that every possible option has been accounted for, including deep bins between the seats, console recesses and door bins, making the car just as suitable for the family as it is the individual looking to make an impression.

Other features include a boot security screen to stop items being crushed as the door shuts and the folding metal roof is something truly impressive, opening or closing in less than thirty seconds and stowing away nicely in a dedicated area of the boot.

All in all, the Lexus IS 250C SE-L is a smooth yet engaging ride with more power than you might be expecting and is a wonderful addition to the almost empty executive convertible range.

Honda have announced a summary of their automobile production for the first half of their fiscal year as well as their domestic sales and export results in Japan, and the results are encouraging for the beleaguered manufacturer.

Japanese production has increased for the first time in four years and has set an all-time record in Asia and China for September and production is up throughout the world since December 2009. There are a range of other encouraging statistics for the manufacturer which can be viewed at the press release here, but it’s certainly good news for Honda and perhaps the car industry as a whole.

Vehicles aren’t manufactured inside a bubble; there needs to be a demand for them and if people are requiring enough cars to set a sales record in the Asian and Chinese regions, Honda must be doing something right or perhaps this is a sign of some form of recovery in the region’s motoring industries.

It seems that the Ultimate Driving Machine isn’t infallible when it comes to escaping from the police – three Sydney teenagers have been charged by police after reports came in of a BMW coupe being driven unsteadily on a south Sydney highway.

Police pursued the stolen vehicle to a stop when four young men ran from the car only for three of them to be apprehended shortly after.

The teenagers are alleged to have stolen the vehicle from Little Bay in southeast Sydney and later drove off without paying for fuel at a nearby station. The individuals have been charged with taking the vehicle without consent and one of the arrestees has had assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest added to his charges.

It appears that no matter how wonderful BMW cars are to drive, they don’t come with cloaks that make your theft and terrible driving invisible to the police.

To promote their forthcoming hybrid model, the CT200h, Lexus have launched an exciting new campaign that they are calling the ‘darker side of green’. The suave online promotion puts a cool, James Bond-style spin on eco-friendly motoring with a swish and stylish web page and online interactive game.

The vehicle itself looks set to take Europe’s luxury hatchback market by storm in early 2011, with the luxury arm of Toyota expecting its launch to double their business in Europe. Lexus have promised not to compromise performance for economy with the new CT200h, which will feature a 1.8L Atkinson cycle four-cylinder gas engine. The four driving modes; EV, ECO, normal and sport, look set to ensure that there is a mode to suit any driving style and all conditions.

You can check out the darker side of green campaign online and see how the CT200h proposes to make hybrid cars a stylish option for the future.

The Civic has remained unchanged since 2005, but will get a futuristic revamp very soon, while there will also be a strong focus on reducing consumption and emissions to create a more efficient vehicle.

A major aim for Honda with this 2013 release is to protect the sale price of the Civic, while improving both its looks and performance. The equipment and interior finish of the vehicle look set to overhauled, with the exterior taking inspiration from the popular CR-Z model. Under the bonnet, there will be more similarities with the CR-Z, namely a hybrid engine featuring the same powertrain; a 1.5 litre petrol engine that delivers 124 HP and 131 lb-ft of torque. Also available will be a new low emission three-cylinder engine.
