A Virtual In Car Auto Pilot
Oh for an easier life! After a hard day at work the last thing we want is to climb into our cars and have a stressful journey home. Well, Honda have put measures in place to relieve that stress for you with several steps to not only making your drive easier but, more importantly, safer.
First of all, we have Adaptive Cruise Control. A radar set in the front grille looks where you are going. Not that you can take your eye off the road for one moment but a little bit of back up never hurt anyone. The ACC will not only maintain a set speed but also regulate it depending on the speed of the car in front.
Honda have also built in a Collision Mitigation Braking System. A radar signal and return echo works out how fast you are approaching the car in front and if you are closing the gap too quickly you will hear an alarm and a flashing indicator. The seat belt will tighten and the brakes lightly applied. If no evasive action is detected the last two steps will be enforced further.
Lane Keeping Assist System is Honda’s way of picking up road markings with a camera mounted behind the windscreen. Steering is adjusted in small increments to keep you centred between the road markings and if you still veer over the white lines, a warning signal will be audible.
A traction control system will keep track of brake force, tyre grip and the exact amount of power needed to stop you from skidding and adjust accordingly. This is Honda’s Vehicle Stability Assist.
Some other alterations to the Honda range come in the form of the engine and fuel tank being moved closer to the car’s centre of gravity ensuring better, more responsive, handling and improved stability.
All this as well as some radical changes to the engine itself! A diesel particulate filter fitted right next to the engine means that cleaner exhaust emissions are evident as soon as the car is started. This has brought it into line with the Euro 5 emissions compliancy and is another string to the Honda bow.
